The production for the Autumn Pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, has started in earnest. Audition calls have started to go out, not just to the St Gertrudes community, but to a large number of surrounding parishes.
We are now looking for volunteers to help back stage in a whole host of roles, from costume to make-up, set construction to stage hands.
The production will be staged at Whitgift School and run for three days, 3rd – 5th November 2011.
The Godstone road has had restricted access for some weeks because of flooding risks in the Kenley area. Access to the school from St James Road is largely unaffected, although you simply have to tell the Police you are going to the show at the school, and they will let you through.
We have parking available in the school, but first come first served. Additional parking is available in local streets, and unrestricted in most places.
Everything seemed to come together just right last night. We had a terrific audience for a Thursday evening, and the children were treated to a fun, magical show, even though it was school the next day. Wonderful to see headmasters and teachers attending too. The demon was hissed at and thoroughly horrible. Jack and Jill won the day with some great performances, and the kids in the show danced and sang with so much energy.
Friday night looks to be just as well attended, with more expected to arrive before the show at 7:30 pm. All are welcome, and will be met by our front of house team and a well stocked refreshments area.
After a very successful dress rehearsal, the pantomime is ready to welcome an audience tonight. We have a well-stocked tuck shop and drinks area to keep the children topped up, including our well-organised front of house team, who will welcome you in, sell you any tickets you need, and show you into the theatre.
See you all there!
A week from now we would have performed our first show and no doubt it would have been great! The next few days will see the main technical work to bring together the lighting, sound and special effects. The Whitgift ‘big school’ theatre is a wonderful stage to put on our show, and its traditional design only adds to the traditional panto atmosphere.
Like any production, there are so many people, both on stage and behind the scenes, who put a great deal of effort and time into making the show the best they can. It is too easy to forget about the hidden effort, from props management to costumes, stage management to construction, marketing to sound. Each of these positions is a person, or two, trying to complete the sometimes complicated task of making it all come together.
Our intrepid Directors and cast are putting so much energy into getting things right for the shows at the end of October. The audience is surely in for a terrific time!

Who can resist the opportunity to laugh, groan and see the children having fun. Our new production, Jack & Jill, is now getting ready for the show to go on at the end of October. See the Tickets page for details on booking those seats.
The rehearsal schedule is currently being finalised as we run up to the show in October. With many on holiday, we are taking our time to work out the technical aspects for the show, set requirements and what needs to be built.
